The Philippines is officially participating in the establishment of
regional geologic maps through the 1:5M International Geological Map
of Asia Project (IGMA5000), under the auspices of the Commission on
the Geological Map of the World (CGMW), undertaken by a consortium
composed primarily of state geological surveys, geological
institutes and related entities. Initial Philippine contributions
include the existing 1:1M Geologic Map of the Philippines and the
2004 edition of the Geology and Mineral Resources of the
Philippines. These contributions are in the process of being
formatted according to the specifications of the IGMA5000. The first
regional outputs are expected to be presented at the 33rd
International Geological Congress (IGC) in August 2008.
