This project was undertaken primarily in
order to identify the minerals
constituting the ores of Philippine
manganese deposits. It started with a
set of manganese samples submitted to
this laboratory by Mr. C. Ibanez for
mineralogical identification. It was
later on decided to extend the analysis
on other manganese samples which could
be obtained from other sources in order
to give a concise description of their
physical, optical, textural and x-ray
characteristics.
This report describes exclusively some
of the oxides of manganese - a group of
minerals comprising practically all of
the country’s mineable manganese
deposits.
