GEOLOGICAL-GEOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE
ZINC-LEAD-COPPER PROSPECT IN PALANAS, KAWIT,
AYALA DISTRICT, ZAMBOANGA CITY
Federico E. Miranda and Maximo V. Garcia
INTRODUCTION
The geological-geochemical "follow-up"
investigation of the zinc-load-copper
prospect in Palanas, Kawit, Ayala
District, Zamboanga City was undertaken
as part of the Bureau of Mines'
continuing project. Results of this
investigation show the relationship of
the geochemical pattern or anomaly with
the general trend of the mineralized
zones. These zones are mainly controlled
by structures.
Although the prospect is predominantly a
zinc deposit with a ratio of 2:1 in
relation with the lead, the zinc content
of the residual soil is below the
threshold value of 100 ppm. This can be
attributed to its high solubility and
mobility. The presence of smithsonite in
underground workings suggests that the
zinc ions have undergone dissolution and
redeposition.
