ABSTRACT

On the basis of recent studies and fieldwork, a stratigraphic scheme for the rock units around Baguio District is proposed, consisting of the following stratified units: Pugo Formation, Zigzag Formation, Kennon Limestone, Klondyke Formation, Mirador Limestone, Baguio Formation,. The intrusive units include the Central Cordillera Diorite Complex, Black Mountain Quartz Diorite Porphyry, Balacbac Andesite and Balatoc Dacite Diatreme. This stratigraphic scheme is compared with those adopted by Balce and others (1980), UNDP (1987), Maleterre (1989), Mitchell and Leach (1991) and others. The rock units in Baguio District are also correlated with those outside the area covered by the Baguio Quadrangle with a view to gaining a better understanding of sedimentation and magmatism for the whole Central Cordillera.
