INTRODUCTION
The Tanon Strait Concession (Block SC 46), located in the central part of the Tanon Strait between the islands of Cebu and Negros, was initially assigned as GSEC102 to JAPEX in June, 2001 and converted to a Service Contract (SC 46) in December, 2004 after completion of the initial geological and geophysical study and the relinquishment of a southern part of original block. Although the block is still in the frontier exploration stage without any exploration wells, JAPEX has carried out satellite image analysis, fieldwork, sample analyses, sequence stratigraphic study, reprocessing of old geophysical data, and acquisition of 750km of new 2D seismic data. The exploration effort resulted in the confirmation of the hydrocarbon potential of the block as well as the delineation of numerous prospects and leads. In particular, the G & G study conducted during the GSEC 102 period revealed a new concept of the source rock potential of this block. |
