Abstract
Padcal
Mine is Philex Mining Corporation's copper-gold mine located in the
Province of Benguet, Luzon Island, Philippines. The mine has been in
continuous operation for forty-seven (48) years. The remaining life
of the mine is only 5 years assuming no new ore discovery is made.
As early as 1998, Philex has been planning its mine transition or
closure plan with the objective of formulating and preparing a
comprehensive mine rehabilitation and area transition plan pursuant
to the law and as part of the company's corporate social
responsibility.
Through
participatory approach, the various social development and
management programs of the company aim to strengthen the harmonious
relationship between the company and residents of the neighboring
communities affected directly and indirectly by the mining
operations at the same time empower the people, women in particular,
to make them self-reliant even when the mine ceases operation. |
